But what is Snuggle Smart, and how did we get the blanket we have today? Here is the story behind the Snuggle.
The Story of Grandmother and Granddaughter
Well, it all starts with the story of our CEO, Chloe Williams, and her Grandmother.
Growing up, Chloe had a strong bond and relationship with her Grandmother that was unique between them. She would spend countless days and hours playing, learning, and hearing stories from her Grandmother that she would hold near and dear to her heart for years to come.
Unfortunately, in the summer of 2013, Chloe’s Grandmother became ill with stage 2 breast cancer, and her health quickly began to decelerate right in front of Chloe’s eyes. Her best friend, who once used to spend hours running in the backyard, could no longer run; her best friend’s laugh seemingly began to disappear, and with it, so did Chloe’s hope of her Grandmother’s recovery.
Chloe and her family spent countless hours in and out of the Hospital tending and caring for her Grandmother. During these visits, the initial idea behind the Snuggle Smart came to fruition. Throughout each hospital visit, Chloe would note her Grandmother’s comfort level and consistently note that her body temperature would fluctuate between hot and cold. This constant state of discomfort between hot and cold constantly left her Grandmother in an even more uncomfortable state than was necessary. Chloe began to think about how she could make her Grandmother comfortable during such a difficult time; this led to the early conceptualized idea of a smart blanket and, with it, the story behind the Snuggle.
The Development of the Snuggle Smart
This smart blanket would be infused with technology that could change in temperature depending on the individual using it and their body temperature at that specific time. Chloe imagined that this blanket would be able to incorporate both heating and cooling technology so that there would never be any reason to remove the blanket from the user. In addition to heating and cooling factors, Chloe imagined a blanket that could give its users real-time feedback on their body and sleeping habits, including their sleep patterns, heart rate, blood pressure, and pulse per minute. Each of these qualities of the Smart Blanket came from experiences that Chloe had picked up on having watched her Grandmother in the Hospital daily.
